Christian Bale Would 'Go Nuts' If He Weren't an Actor

17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Show Actor Christian Bale, winner of Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role award for "The Fighter," speaks onstage during the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards held at The Shrine Auditorium on January 30, 2011 in Los Angeles, California. If he weren't an actor, he told Us at the SAG awards, he'd "probably go nuts! I got into the business early, too early," he said. "I knew I had an addiction to it and there was that element of getting to walk in other people's shoes. I find it fascinating."

Bale, who won Best Supporting Actor at the awards show, said he might have become a detective if his chosen career hadn't worked out. "That's what I enjoy-- studying people endlessly without having to apologize."

This skill sounds like something he must exercise to approach challenging roles like the drug-addict former boxer he played in The Fighter.
